Best Bathroom Layouts Design Ideas

bathroom layout design

The example implies instruments for shaping design from scratch, but it can also be applied to remodeling or other plan changes to your bathroom. Finally, consider wall-hung bathroom vanity ideas and other fittings, as these will give an impression of space. To lay out a small bathroom, draw out a to-scale plan and use cut outs of the priority elements – bath, toilet, basin, storage – to see what can fit comfortably.

x 8 Bathroom Plan With Shower

bathroom layout design

Provide adequate, accessible storage for toiletries, bath linens, grooming, and general bathroom supplies at the point of use. The size for a separate toilet compartment should be at least 36x66 inches with a swing-out or pocket door. The distance from the centerline of a toilet and/or bidet to any bath fixture, wall, or other obstacle should be at least 18 inches. Every bath needs a sink, but choosing between one or two for your arrangement deserves pondering.

Window Seat

If you prefer more privacy, a frosted door in a tiled shower adds cozy and stylish modesty. Another space-expanding tip is to replace the tub-shower combo with a large shower. If you have a tub in another bathroom, gaining a plus-size shower in a primary bath can increase the perceived value of a primary bedroom suite. Whether you're remodeling or building from scratch, designing the perfect bathroom layout involves a lot of excitement—but also requires thought.

Use a Bathroom Layout Design Tool

While space looks a little cramped, it allows for some room to get around. The wall separation means more than one person can make use of certain parts of the space and still maintain a modicum of privacy. That’s good design and shows that you can still pack in what you want even if you’re dealing with what’s traditionally the smaller space of a powder room. A great option for couples who want to upgrade their bathroom, but don’t have a ton of space with which to work. This plan can provide an upgrade to a typical bathroom, but it keeps it practical in its use of space.

If you do have just enough space to include both a bath and separate shower, there are many inventive ways of maximizing the space. 'Take a look at your space and consider your wish list,' says Louise Ashdown of West One Bathrooms. 'The fittings for a family bathroom are likely to be different to a luxurious ensuite bathroom; a compact wet room different to a large spa-like bathroom. "This house was designed for a mid-to-upper age couple," says White. "While they still love soaking after a stressful day or tough workout, the walk-in shower, with a built-in bench, will soon become a necessity."

Boost space with wall-hung fittings

If you have a long wall for a spacious vanity, consider lowering a 24-inch section of the countertop to create a dedicated makeup station. Leave space below the countertop open to store a stool or chair so you can sit while grooming. Here's what you need to keep in mind when planning a design, as well as small bathroom layout ideas that make the most of every inch.

Because vanity is often where people groom themselves, quality lighting is incredibly important. Many people are tempted to use overhead lighting, but this can cast shadows that make it difficult to apply makeup or shave. They can manage all the work for you, including plumbing, tiling and electrics. Otherwise you can employ the individual contractors needed for your project. Always ask for personal recommendations and look for accredited contractors.

Lesson 3: The Opposite Wall Bathroom

If one of you really enjoys soaking in the tub, having a separate unit would be worth the cost. It can be helpful to avoid overhead lighting entirely, instead opting for lighting along the sides of the vanity mirror. This will provide adequate lighting while preventing shadows that can cause a problem when you’re trying to get ready. Another aspect to consider with the vanity is where the primary lighting in the room will be located.

Bathroom Floor Plans

In this bathroom by Neptune, the basin has been placed so it faces the window – a common design idea often used for kitchen Feng Shui ideas. This layout idea embraces the natural light that floods into the bathroom space by positioning an essential, everyday bathroom appliance near the window. When planning your bathroom ideas, working out the layout first is essential, as this will then allow for you to pick designs and objects that are suited perfectly to the exact needs of your space. For every rule of thumb described above, there’s always a bathroom that we approach that has some weird exception that simply doesn't fit into these rules. A good designer will be able to help fit a comfortable (and not odd) bathroom layout into even a strange space. You can sneak a long counter under a sloping roof; or, deal with a window right where you want your mirror, or even tuck an attic access hatch behind a tub.

To the left is a separate room that includes the toilet as well as a bidet. To the right of the entryway is an enclosed area for the toilet. The floor plan includes two sinks and plenty of counter space – great for couples looking for a little extra room. With two entryways, this bathroom design provides numerous options for those looking for a shared bathroom plan. For example, it’s a great option for a hallway location that also connects to a bedroom. Another option is for a bathroom location that connects to two bedrooms.

If you have a larger room, wider 3 ft (92 cm) models are available. You can also opt for a shorter 4 ft 6 inches (137 cm) tub to fit a smaller room. When renovating a bathroom, there are specific codes and guidelines around sizing and spacing of bathroom elements.

Inside the Real Barbie Airbnb DreamHouse And How to Shop the Look

In October 2019, the residence was briefly available to rent for $60 a night. Fill your space with the Barbie-approved aroma of raspberry, strawberry leaves, brown sugar, crushed mint leaves and “plastic doll accord” with Glasshouse’s Barbie DreamHouse Stawberry & Dream candle, which comes in a chic lidded glass vessel. Only a few lucky Barbie superfans will get to snooze at the pink-powered seaside property, but these cool Barbiecore finds let you recreate the whimsical experience at home. Videos and images of a mysterious Barbie house gained attention online Sunday, when a local news helicopter spotted the house from the sky. The house is by El Pescador State Beach in Western Malibu, a beach community known for wealthy residents and high-end homes—neighboring houses to the east and west of the house are estimated to be worth more than $5.2 million, according to Zillow. Lindsay Lowe has been a regular contributor to TODAY.com since 2016, covering pop culture, style, home and other lifestyle topics.

Try booking Christian Louboutin's quiet and understated new hotel in Portugal instead, or jetting off to Karl Lagerfeld's luxury Macau option for a fully five-star holiday. There are two one-night stays available for up to two guests each on July 21 and July 22, so a total of four guests can stay at the house. “We all have dreams, and Barbie is lucky enough to have a house full of them,” Ken said Monday in a statement. Margot Robbie was recently spotted toting SteamLine Luggage’s retro carry-on suitcase ($550) and hat box in very on-brand powder pink while promoting Barbie in her native Australia.

The company will select four lucky guests (two per night) to spend a night at the oceanfront villa for free on July 21 and 22. While only a handful will realize their DreamHouse, uh, dreams, anyone can deck out their digs in Barbiecore. Mattel and the Warner Bros. film continue to roll out collaborations to promote all things Barbie (as they have been for the last year).

Aligning with the initiative, Barbie has also released many career dolls that emulate these high-power, high-intelligence careers in recent years, such as Judge Barbie, President Barbie, and Doctor Barbie. Profits from the coveted trip will support The Barbie Dream Gap Project, an initiative in partnership with GoFundMe that "gives girls the resources and support they need to continue believing in themselves." But even though the trip to Barbie heaven may be a short stay, the trip will be packed with absolutely perfect perks. Introduced in 1959, the Barbie doll has been criticized over the years for promoting unhealthy beauty standards and lacking diversity. Mattel has attempted to address these issues by releasing a wider array of dolls, including, most recently, a Barbie with Down syndrome. The ‘Barbie’ film used so much pink paint that it depleted the global reserves of its supplier, Rosco, which were already limited by supply chain issues.

The company will make a one-time donation to the charity Save the Children in celebration of the Barbie movie. "All stays will be free of charge – because Ken couldn't figure out how to put a price on Barbie's Malibu DreamHouse – after all, Ken's thing is beach, not math!" Airbnb said. The stays are free of charge, according to Airbnb, but guests are responsible for their own travel to and from Malibu. Up to four guests will have the opportunity to stay in the newly revamped Dreamhouse where Ken will offer up his room up for availability. This isn’t the first time Barbie’s Malibu Dreamhouse has popped up on Airbnb.

But now, there's an even better way to mark the film's release on 21 July – by staying in a life-sized version of the Barbie Dreamhouse, courtesy of Airbnb. The property rental company and Warner Bros. have joined forces to promote “Barbie” — the summer comedy starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling — by inviting “everyone in Barbie Land” to enter for a chance to win a one-night stay at the luxury estate. Replay that speedboat scene IRL with Funboy’s official Barbie the Movie pool float, part of the inflatable accessories brand’s collection of film-inspired summer essentials that includes swimwear, beach towels and more. The real-life Barbie DreamHouse is reopening its doors in Malibu soon — but this time, the three-story Airbnb promises big Kenergy. The seaside property with panoramic views first went up for rent in 2019, and Ken has redecorated the bright pink pad ahead of Greta Gerwig’s highly-anticipated Barbie film. The Malibu DreamHouse will be available to book for two separate, overnight stays for up to two people on July 21 and July 22, 2023.

If you’re one of the lucky ones chosen, you’ll have to pay for your own travel to and from Malibu. To sweeten the deal, Airbnb will be making a one-time donation to Save the Children in celebration of the film and to support girls’ empowerment. At the centre of the building, on one of the house's many terraces, guests can make use of an outside disco dance floor in pink, purple and yellow with its own DJ deck. The oceanfront mansion, located in Malibu, California, features panoramic views and "serves as the perfect backdrop for Ken’s picture-plastic paradise," according to a statement from Airbnb. With Ken as “host,” Barbie’s pink-drenched Malibu DreamHouse is hitting Airbnb once again this month, offering guests the chance to stay at the house prior to the upcoming release of the doll’s eponymous film, directed by Greta Gerwig.

The newly renovated Malibu dream house sports Barbie’s signature pink polish, this time with a revamped Kenergy. Ken has decked out the house with his personal touches, like cowboy gear, guitars, games, and more. The beachfront mansion previously came to Airbnb in 2019 for Mattel’s celebration of the doll’s 60th anniversary.

She is also working on her first novel, a domestic drama set in rural Regency England. But now, the oceanfront home has been renovated to fully embrace all things pink and Barbie. Barbie and Ken’s Malibu residence was previously listed on Airbnb back in 2019 but has since been given a major revamp ahead of the release of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Barbie's Malibu Dreamhouse will be available to book for up to two guests each on July 21 and July 22, 2023, with bookings opening on 17 July.

But each one features menus crafted by Michelin-starred chef Cornelius Gallagher, so you’re definitely not going to go hungry. If you’re looking to get away from the tacky decor of some cruise ships, then Celebrity Cruises are for you. Their ships are outfitted with a sleek, modern atmosphere that makes you feel like a thousand bucks when coupled with their outstanding service. For a smooth dining experience, it’s also helpful to look at the availability of various dining venues on the cruise. When you cruise with us, the dining options are as diverse as the flavors you’ll find on each menu. It's also perfectly fine to pack your pre-packaged snacks in your day pack – and bring back local chocolates, rum cakes, hot sauces and other packaged, edible souvenirs when you return. Specialty dining is the cruise industry name for onboard restaurants you have to pay for. Some charge a flat cover charge to dine there; others price dishes a la carte, as you'd find in most land-based eateries. The other standard included option is the buffet, typically located near the pool. The buffet will offer multiple themed stations (salad bar, carvery, deli, pasta station, dessert bar, etc.) and will either be self-serve or have crew ready to portion out food from large serving dishes for you.

Over the years, as part of testing and reviewing nearly 200 vessels operated by 41 different lines, I've eaten at pretty much every cruise ship restaurant. Whether you’re looking for good, old-fashioned service or varied cuisine, you won’t go hungry if you book with these top-rated cruise lines. Big cruise liners have a tempting array of restaurants, but the best food at sea is found on small ships, according to Which? One of the exceptional experiences highlighted by our guests is the "Chef's Table Experience" (available on Royal Class Ships).

One of the best experiences guests have noted is that Princess Cruises offers a “Chef’s Table Experience” (on Royal Class Ships). Here you get a behind-the-scenes look at the kitchen, followed by a multi-course tastings dinner with wine pairings. With various choices, each ship has a vast selection of restaurants, from the impressive Main Dining Room to the laid-back Oceanview Cafe. For a bit extra, the speciality restaurants offer options from Tuscan Grille’s Italian classics to Sushi on Five’s Japanese delights. Guests have reported the delicious food, served in beautiful settings with flawless service. Others have expressed that their partnership with American chef Thomas Keller also sets Seabourn apart, which brings a unique “wow” factor to their dining.

Waves Grill on the pool deck goes beyond cheeseburgers to salmon sandwiches and Wagyu beef burgers. Its afternoon tea is a marquee event, with waiters wheeling carts of goodies through the observation lounge. On Vista, you can start your day on a high note at Aquamar with multiple types of avocado toast and freshly made juices blended with therapeutic spices. Its evening pizzeria is not to be missed, not only for the Italian-style pies but for the enticing burrata menu. Princess Cruises’ Citron Tart dessert is a zesty and delightful creation that captures the essence of citrusy goodness. This tart features a buttery crust filled with a tangy lemon or lime custard and is often garnished with fresh berries.

It’s recommended to inform the cruise line in advance, allowing them ample time to make the necessary arrangements. The line, inducted into La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, finds its culinary cues in its riverboats’ itineraries, selecting local ingredients and intriguing wines like Rieslings from Austria’s Wachau Valley. AmaWaterways’ wine-themed voyages, like Flavors of Burgundy with excursions to Beaune and Mâcon, win consistent praise. Onboard gastronomic pinnacles include the Chef’s Table, a small-group dining adventure where a chef prepares wine-paired multi-course meals before passengers. Silversea’s impactful S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste) program secures the luxury line’s winning spot.

While this luxury cruise line’s Relais & Chateaux L’Ecole des Chefs cooking cruises are honestly enough to warrant a solid second place alone, Silversea offers even more. Plus, despite the small size of these intimate ships, there are around six to eight specialty restaurants onboard - all included in the fare. These days, many cruise lines are partnering with respected chefs to develop diverse dining experiences at sea to rival those on land  and to offer the cruise ship food ever. As cruise ships get larger, less expensive, and more popular, cruise lines are having to contend with a rising expectation for gourmet cuisine - not just buffet-style pig-outs. In this cruise food guide, we dive deeper into every aspect of dining on a cruise. Learn everything you need to know about cruise ship dining from what’s included in your fare and how to make the most of the main dining room on a cruise.

Your dining experience is elevated with a side of personalized service that ensures your culinary desires are met with impeccable attention. Whether it’s a formal dinner, a casual lunch by the pool, or a late-night snack, your taste buds will rejoice in the luxury that graces every plate. Whether you’re gliding down the Nile River or navigating the Arctic’s uncharted waters, below are some exceptional experiences you can savor aboard Viking’s river, ocean, and expedition cruises. Is drifting down the Danube River your style, or would you rather roam the icy waters of Antarctica?

This luxe line debuted modern Mediterranean restaurant Solis on Seabourn Quest as an inspired replacement to Thomas Keller’s Grill, before Seabourn Encore, Ovation, and Sojourn rollouts. Seabourn restaurants may differ stylistically fleetwide, yet never vary in quality. Exemplary venues include Sushi for primo fish; the Restaurant with intricate entrees like carved lamb loin with crisp lamb spring roll; and Earth & Ocean for fine dining al fresco. But even on the largest mass-market cruise ships, the food is getting ever more elaborate and diverse.

You can expect many dining options included in your fare, such as the themed main dining room and the casual Cabanas buffet. The speciality restaurants, like Remy and Palo, take you to the heart of French and Italian cuisine. If you have any special dietary requirements, Princess Cruises has a range of food for everyone.

Dining options are more limited on board Noble Caledonia’s tiny ships, but guests didn’t seem to mind. There’s usually just one dining room and the option to dine on deck in warmer climes. As proud members of the esteemed Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, one of the world's premier gastronomic and fine-dining societies, we bring unparalleled dining experiences to your journey. We introduce an interactive dining adventure called 'Le Petit Chef,' a fusion of technology and gastronomy.

Next, Princess Cruises also boasts one of the best pizzerias at sea, Alfredo’s, which serves up authentic, hand-tossed Neapolitan-style pizzas loaded with fresh and funky toppings. Beyond that, the line's small-ish vessels don't have a ton of additional options, but what they lack in number, they make up for in sheer quality.

Most will have one main dining room venue that is larger and does not require reservations or extra fees to eat there. The small ships don’t offer nearly as many dining options as cruise lines with larger ships, but the quality is so impressive that you won’t miss the variety one bit. The refined decor and accommodating servers make every dining experience feel like a treat unto itself, not to mention the inventive cuisine. One of the most revolutionary cruise ships that currently sail the seas, Quantum of the Seas has no fewer than fifteen restaurants. —and a sushi restaurant, while the Chef’s Table offers a superb private five-course dining experience.

While this bonus tip may not be the most cost-effective, it's definitely the most convenient. It's forbidden in cabins and on cabin balconies, and those who violate this rule will face a $250 cleaning fee. Guests wishing to consume wine or Champagne that they have brought on board in one of the dining rooms will be charged a corkage fee of $26 per bottle. If you are on a ship that charges by day instead of by the amount of data used, expect the prices to vary from $12-$36 per day, depending on the speed you select.

In addition to the included soft-serve ice cream and Mickey bars available via room service, your ship may have some shops with extra-fee ice cream. On Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish, you'll find an ice cream shop stuffed with candies, gelato and ice cream — all for an extra charge. Room service, the buffet and the on-deck food counter dining options don't cost extra and are available to you in addition to or instead of your rotational dining. In addition to the buffet, a few grab-and-go quick-service restaurants on the pool deck serve salads, chili, pizza, barbecue and more, depending on which ship you're sailing.

Dining options are varied and (mostly) included

And depending on when you cruise, you may be able to pick from themed itineraries for Halloween and Christmas. Here's what you need to know about Disney cruise ships, including the newest vessel, the Disney Wish. An extension of the superb experience on land, Disney Cruise Line offers some of the most family-friendly cruise ships at sea, with opportunities to meet princesses or Mickey and the gang, while also offering adult-friendly experiences. Most of your daily expenses, including your food and non-alcoholic beverages, are included when sailing on a Disney cruise. However, if you’d like specialty drinks or alcohol, you’ll need to pay extra. Gratuities are not included, and Disney Cruise Line's recommended tip is a minimum of $14.50 per guest, per night.

Disney Magic

But they can also be pricey, and those costs can add up if you’re sailing with multiple people. According to Disney Cruise Line, all Disney ships feature sophisticated cocktail lounges, stylish dance clubs, adults-only restaurants, as well as fitness centers and salons reserved (and designed) for adult passengers. The ships also boast a Quiet Cove Pool, which consists of adult-only sundecks, tranquil pools, and soothing whirlpools.

Disney has a massive global footprint across its theme parks, films and merchandise. Among its many offerings is the Disney Cruise Line, whose fleet of five ships sails all over the world. The USCG said the helicopter and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft were deployed from the air station in Miami to meet with the cruise ship. You can also inquire about discounted upgrades at the port, assuming rooms are left unsold on your voyage. In the evenings, you'll find included beer, wine and spirits in the lounge — which you can also take with you as you head out to dinner or to enjoy the view from the deck. Disney concierge service gets you access to the Disney Concierge Lounge, which has food offerings multiple times per day and a fully stocked fridge with sodas, juices and bottles of water.

Disney cruises can also be magical for adults

There's plenty that sets Disney Cruise Line apart from its competitors — and not just the endless soft-serve ice cream, family-friendly staterooms, or being able to hug Mickey Mouse on your way to a Disney princess-themed restaurant. All five Disney cruise ships are elegantly designed and provide high-end services. With the best activities to keep kids entertained throughout the day, along with relaxing escapes for adults, Disney cruises offer plenty for the entire family. Disney cruise ships are covered in high-end decor and thoughtful design that feel more classy and less kid-focused, but select adults-only experiences, including exclusive lounges and pools, still thrive. Don’t miss the “rainforest room” in the Disney Magic’s Senses Spa, as well as adult beverage tasting seminars.

Cruise Critic is not a booking agent and does not charge any service fees to users of our site. When you book with one of our partners, please be sure to check their site for a full disclosure of all applicable fees as required by the U.S. As a bonus tip, on the Dream and Fantasy ships, the onboard Vibe lounge includes a private sundeck and teenager-only splash pools located all the way at the front of each ship (arguably, top-tier real estate). This may help if your teenager requires a bit of convincing to take a family cruise. Another reason to consider going through a travel agent is to get onboard credit.

Tirso Neri, 44, was charged with possession of pornography and transportation of child pornography. Some other cruise line's private islands, like Norwegian's Great Stirrup Cay, don't have a dock, so cruisers must take tender ships (small boats) from the cruise ship to the island. The cost of a Disney cruise can vary dramatically based on your needs and sailing preferences. However, you should expect to spend at least $1,000 on a cruise for two passengers. The price goes up from there depending on your cabin selection, trip duration and destination choices, among other options.

During the evenings, dining attire in the three main dining restaurants is "cruise casual," meaning no swimwear or tank tops, but you don't have to put on a party dress. That said, many guests do dress up a bit in the evening, but it's not required unless you are dining in Palo, Remy or Enchante. Guests 21 years and older may bring a maximum of two bottles of unopened wine or Champagne (no larger than 750 milliliters) or six beers (no larger than 12 ounces) on board at the beginning of the voyage and at each port of call. These beverages must be packed in carry-on (not checked) bags or luggage. Parents can stay with kids and play during open hours on the first day and select times on other dates, but most of the time, the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab are kids-only. Your kids will check in and out by scanning a special MagicBand that also tracks where they are within the kids clubs.

Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy also have a juice bar that costs extra. You'll see jackets and dresses in Palo, but you can also get by with nice jeans if you want. This adults-only restaurant serves Northern Italian fare and starts at about $45 per person for a multicourse brunch or dinner, though you can also order a la carte for dinner, which could cost more or less, depending on your order. Room service is mostly free (other than sodas or alcohol), though the menu is limited if you aren't staying in a concierge-level cabin. From room service to evening dinners, meals are (mostly) all included.

For a family of four, the cheapest Disney cruise currently available (not counting the two-night cruises in Australia and New Zealand) is about $2,500. Cruises that are seven nights or longer schedule one "formal night" — though even then, it's only encouraged, not required. On that night, you will see suits, sports coats, cocktail dresses and similar from some guests.

If you have a princess dress or outfit from home you want to use or reuse, you can purchase a cheaper package at Bibbidi Bobbidi. You can work off some of those treats and drinks at the onboard fitness center on each ship. Some of the drink-tasting classes that you book in advance can be a good value if you're a fan of the drink on offer and are interested in learning a little bit while you sip. The exact bars will vary by vessel, but you can expect spots like a wine and Champagne bar, a pub, a laid-back lounge and a bar with live entertainment.

Let's face it — Disney Cruise Line vacations are expensive, but the memories made on the ships are priceless. A travel agent can get you the same pricing you will find anywhere else, plus they offer onboard credit to spend on the ship and will help you plan the whole thing. Tip #1 – I actually learned this tip from our travel agent, but the #1 thing to do when booking a Disney Cruise is to book early.

The Disney Fantasy

Letting Disney choose your cabin can be a great way to get a deal on the cruise. These are known as guaranteed rates, and they are the cheapest fares in each category. All you have to do is pick your room type, such as inside, ocean view or balcony, and Disney picks which specific room number you get. Keep in mind that an 18% gratuity is automatically added to bar tabs across the ship and for spa services. To make it easy while on the ship, you can charge all your gratuities to your onboard account.

The Best Disney Credit Card Might Surprise You

Ultimately, the cost of a Disney Cruise is a personal decision that will depend on individual preferences and budget. However, with careful planning and consideration of all available options, it’s possible to find a cruise that offers you great value for the price. In conclusion, the cost of a Disney Cruise can vary depending on the season. Fall and winter months are generally considered to be the off-season, while summer months are the peak season with higher prices.

Kids can also play dress-up and get a full regal or pirate (only available on Pirate Party Nights) makeover at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, found on every Disney ship. Depending on the package you booked for your child, expect to pay $100 to $450 for each makeover. On the upper decks, quick-service food stations, soft-serve ice cream and a buffet are available. If any of these apply to you, you may have special access to discounted Disney cruise prices. Add food costs on top of that, and you're almost certainly well above the price of a Disney cruise. You'll put 20% down when you first book and then have until much closer to sailing to pay off the remaining 80%.

Comparing Disney Cruise Cost Per Person and Prices of Each Ship

Let’s start by looking at a few examples to illustrate how much Disney cruises cost for 2023, then we’ll examine what contributes to the prices. When you choose to apply (and are approved) for a new credit card through our site, we may receive compensation from our partners, and this may impact how or where these products appear. Please view our advertising policy and product review methodology for more information. On the ship, easy-to-transport souvenirs included trading pins, magnets and apparel. Other more expensive onboard souvenirs include jewelry, luxury brand purses and wallets, and art. Because there's no drink package available through Disney Cruise Line, you will have to pay for each drink individually.

Utopia of the Seas came out to $2,850.10 for two people staying in a balcony cabin, while the Disney Wish cruise, also in a balcony room, cost $3,337.20. Cruises with Mickey Mouse and his pals range in price depending on many factors such as the embarkation port and destination, departure date, length of the cruise and cabin type you book. No matter which cruise you book, it will be pricey, like any Disney vacation. You'll have to determine what value you put on experiencing the "magic" of Disney.

This is based on a daily average cost of $800 and $1,600 per person for short Disney cruises. The cost of a cruise per person can vary significantly and is dependent on the travel dates, ports of departure and arrival, and room type. Disney Dream has two adults-only specialty dining restaurants onboard, Palo and Remy.

Because of how expensive Disney cruise sailings are, I always look for deals, either a Florida resident offer or a discount on a select sail date. It provides a space for adults to relax, socialize, and enjoy entertainment tailored specifically to them, while still having access to the rest of the family-friendly activities and amenities on board. You can look at paying from $2,600 – $6,300 on a 3-night Caribbean cruise. If you are sailing on a Disney Cruise to the Bahamas or the Caribbean, included in your fare, is a visit to Disney’s Private Island, Castaway Cay. This island is amazing with beautiful beaches, water slides, snorkeling and so much more. My kids are not the type of kids who like to stray off and go to a kids club but Disney’s is out of this world.

While there is inevitable sticker shock when searching the line's itineraries, the average price of a Disney cruise is a better value than you might initially realize. Travel Agencies can also offer promotions if you book through them in the form of Shipboard Credit. While on the ship, you can use this credit for spa treatments, merchandise, photos, and more.

The exact bars will vary by vessel, but you can expect spots like a wine and Champagne bar, a pub, a laid-back lounge and a bar with live entertainment. Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy also have a juice bar that costs extra. I can say with 100% certainty that if you enjoy a nice meal, this is worth the extra $45 once during your cruise. Room service is mostly free (other than sodas or alcohol), though the menu is limited if you aren't staying in a concierge-level cabin. In the evenings, you'll find included beer, wine and spirits in the lounge — which you can also take with you as you head out to dinner or to enjoy the view from the deck.

Alaska, and the Caribbean, are usually priced high during this time. Europe and the Panama Canal are usually only offered during these peak seasons. The Disney Wish will sail its inaugural season of three- and four-night cruises to Nassau, Bahamas, and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, from its new home port of Port Canaveral, Florida. Each Cruise Line has a section on their ships called “The District” that is only for guests who are 18 and older. This section has different bars, lounges, a nightclub, and a movie theater. It’s a spot for adults to unwind, spend time with others, and enjoy entertainment just for them.

Spa-loving teens adore ZSPA, where a pampering teen-friendly treatment begins at $99, while thrill-seekers will want to get in line for Bolt, the first-ever roller coaster at sea ($15 for two rides). On board the ships, young adults can meet others at the sports court for a pickup game of basketball or pickleball. That’s not to mention all the incredible youth-focused activities Carnival delivers on ships both large and small. When you're making the most of family time, even downtime is important on a vacation. Icon of the Seas offers rooms designed specifically for families, featuring options to suit different fams' unique travel styles.

Whether it’s racing down the slides or engaging in water fights with newfound friends, the water parks on cruise ships are a favorite among teenagers. In addition to the teen clubs, Royal Caribbean offers a variety of onboard activities that cater to the interests of teenagers. Thrill-seekers can enjoy rock climbing walls, surfing simulators, and even skydiving simulators on select ships. For those who prefer a more relaxed experience, there are also pools, sports courts, and spa facilities available.

A cruise ship provides teens space to hang out with their peers in cool venues designed just for them. As teens roam the ship, they can munch on snacks as they please or buy sodas or smoothies with their room key without the need for parental approval. High schoolers often want their own space and the ability to explore freely and enjoy time away from their parents or siblings. A cruise can be one of the best ways to allow teens their freedom without completely sacrificing together time with the family. They have plenty of fun activities going on throughout the day and there are always things to do. However, some teenagers may feel that they’re too old or even too cool for Disney.

To plan the best cruise for teens, look for activities they will enjoy on any particular ship. Most ships offer things like the sports deck, pools and “waterparks” with slides, ZSPA — spa services prepared especially designed for year olds, and pizza delivery by room service. Celebrity Cruises shines for its luxury family accommodations and onboard activities. With suites that provide room for the whole family, you can expect your teenagers to feel like they have enough space. They can also make their way to Celebrity’s Teen Club, a space just for young adults to enjoy. Outside the club, teens can enjoy playing on a miniature golf course or camp under the stars with Celebrity’s Camp at Sea.

The only downside to a family vacation on Icon of the Seas is that it comes with a premium price tag. During July 2024, families can expect to pay around $2,900 per person for an interior room, while balconies are going for as much as $3,400 per person. Kirsten is a family travel expert who has been traveling with kids for over 20 years.

On Carnival Vista and Horizon, there's an IMAX movie theatre and "Thrill Theatre." Along with 3D video effects, guests will experience sensations like wind and getting splashed with water. On Carnival Panorama, however, these venues were replaced with the first-ever Sky Zone trampoline park at sea. Plus, Carnival Cruise Line tends to be one of the more budget-friendly mainstream cruise lines at sea, as even if their base fare is higher, their add-ons are cheaper. Like the Quantum Class, these ships are considerably smaller than the Oasis-class ships, with the gross tonnage ranging between 156,271 and 155,899.

MSC Cruises is a European cruise line that has begun to break more and more into the American market, even going so far as to opening their own private island, MSC Ocean Cay Marine Reserve, in 2019. Thankfully, you can find them sailing across the world, meaning that you will not have to sacrifice onboard amenities for itinerary. You will not be limited to choosing the Bahamas or Caribbean, that is for sure. Oasis Class ships are known for their Broadway-style musicals, from Hairspray onboard Symphony of the Seas, to Mamma Mia on Allure of the Seas, and Harmony of the Seas' Grease. Today, there are five Oasis Class ships with a sixth scheduled for delivery in 2024, all ranging between 226,838 and 236,857 gross tons with the ability to carry a maximum of 6,780 to 6,988 passengers.

Alaska Cruise Weather Month By Month Guide

best month to cruise alaska

The choice between small and large ship cruises ultimately hinges on personal preferences for intimacy and access to nature versus onboard amenities and stable sailing. They can navigate narrower waterways and get closer to shorelines, which allows for enhanced wildlife sightings and access to smaller, off-the-beaten-path ports. The area is also renowned for whale watching, with numerous tours available that offer the chance to see humpback and orca whales in their natural habitat. To be prepared for varying conditions, pack versatile attire and include a lightweight rain jacket in your luggage to ensure your Alaskan cruise is comfortable and enjoyable. However, if you’re looking for the best overall weather and want to enjoy a bit of everything Alaska has to offer, late June to early September is ideal.

Alaska Cruise in June: See the Sights on an Alaska Summer Cruise

The average temperature for an Alaska cruise in September is in the mid-50s and lows in the low-40s. It's also very likely to encounter rain, as September is an even rainier month than August. You'll likely encounter the highest chance of rain if you take an Alaska cruise in August, but it's also when you can expect to find the most comfortable outdoor temperatures. The weather in May is usually mild, with temperatures ranging from the mid-40s to the mid-60s. As mentioned in this article, not only does September provide the opportunity to see the Northern Lights, but you will also enjoy less crowds and likely lower prices on a cruise. To maximize your chance of witnessing the northern lights, get off the boat and join a land excursion to Fairbanks.

Finally, you'll find some round-trip San Francisco itineraries — usually 10 or 11 nights long — as well as longer sailings between San Francisco and Vancouver. You'll find magnificent mountains (often snowcapped, even in the summertime), lush forests, waterfalls, fjords and calving glaciers. If it's marine life you've come to see, you'll find it in abundance, from whales and dolphins to sea lions and harbor seals. On land, you'll likely spy bears and Dall sheep while eagles, puffins and a host of seabirds circle above. Multiple major cruise lines offer sailings in Alaska, but mainly during the Spring and Summer months. Princess Cruises is one of the main operators, with seven ships sailing the northern region.

Best cruise lines for adventure-seekers

Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line, Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, and Celebrity Cruises also offer sailings. One of the main advantages of cruising Alaska during the later summer months is the milder temperatures and more predictable weather. During these peak months of the Alaskan summer, daytime temperatures range between 50 and 60 °F, with some days reaching as high as 90 °F. Cast your line into the marvels of an Alaska summer by cruising in August. As you sail into each port of call, delight your taste buds in the delicacies of Alaska’s waters.

Best Alaskan Cruise Shore Excursions for 2023

For these itineraries, you'll need to fly into or out of Anchorage and take a train or bus to/from the cruise departure ports, which can take an hour or two. Additionally, you'll have one day spent cruising the Inside Passage and one focused on "scenic cruising," where you can enjoy the landscapes but won't go ashore. This is not nearly as boring as you might think since you'll see incredible sights like Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve or Hubbard Glacier. One of the key reasons to cruise Alaska versus taking a land tour is to visit destinations along the Inside Passage that you cannot reach by road. If you are looking for uncrowded observation decks and a quieter experience, you may want to avoid this peak season or try September, when things tend to wind down. With more daylight and improved weather, your options for excursions also increase.

What’s Included on an Alaskan Cruise in 2023

Popular Inside Passage ports of call include Juneau, Icy Strait Point, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Haines and Skagway. If you're eager to spot bald eagles in the wild, ride a dog sled atop an ice field or pan for gold after a hearty salmon feast, an Alaska cruise is calling your name. Dive into The Points Guy's Alaska cruise guide for all the planning tips you need for your dream cruise up north. While they tend to be less of an issue while you are on a cruise ship on the water, they can be a menace on shore. On top of that, some of Alaska’s most iconic wildlife species tend to be at their most active and visible when the weather cools off towards the end of summer.

Icy Strait Point is notable among Alaska cruise ports because the area and its attractions are all Native Alaskan-owned. Most port and tour staff hail from Hoonah, Alaska's largest Tlingit village. The port is set on Chichagof Island, which is known for its large bear population.

By cruising in May, you can beat the rush and enjoy a more relaxed and peaceful experience. You can also take advantage of the lower rates offered by the cruise lines during the shoulder season, which can help you save money. Most cruise passengers tend to avoid the early season because of the school calendar and cooler weather. By going in the summer months, many people get to enjoy Alaska when things are in full swing and of course the warmer weather. Keep an eye out for seabirds and songbirds, seals, Steller sea lions and humpback whales.

Cruising Alaska Between Mid-Summer to Early Fall (Late July to Late September)

This port can get crowded in summer when several ships can call on the same day. Hop a bus, kayak, boat or plane to look for bears, eagles, whales, sea otters and other wildlife. Note that moose don't regularly show up in the Inside Passage; you'll need to head farther north to find them. Weeklong itineraries generally embark in either Seattle or Vancouver, British Columbia — though some itineraries originate in Juneau.

Since Alaska cruises are so dependent on outdoor activities, your best chance for sunny days can be opposite of when the best time for crowds are each season. The Alaska cruise season is quite short, with just six months to choose the best time to cruise Alaska. For both cruising and land-based tours, May and September are the “shoulder” seasons in Alaska, with better deals and fewer crowds. Cruise prices during those times may be lower, perhaps by a couple hundred dollars per person.

With fewer crowds in May, take a step inside Alaska’s finest fisheries and taste fresh king salmon — a local delicacy — as they’re plucked from the cool waters. Revel in the rousing vibrations of May sunlight and lookout for humpback whales as they make their first appearance of the year. Or, explore the outdoors on a peaceful boat tour through deep fjords and enjoy a relaxing train ride up the sweeping mountains. As the driest month of the year, May provides optimal conditions to experience the great outdoors. While temperatures cool off in September, witness schools of halibut glisten beneath the Alaska waters and try your hand at casting a reel.

We’ll also discuss factors you may not have considered, such as visibility of the Northern Lights, financial costs, and more. And especially as Alaska is so different compared to your typical warmer cruise destination. Ultimately, there is no perfect time to sail to Alaska, as each month offers its own advantages and disadvantages, and choosing when to cruise to Alaska comes down to your preferences. The weather in Alaska can, and will, change multiple times per day, but you will find the warmest months to be June, July and August.

best month to cruise alaska

During this peak season, you’ll enjoy milder weather, vibrant wildlife, and stunning, clear views of Alaska’s famous landscapes. While gray whales are active in Alaskan waters during the early spring, most species, including belugas, orcas, humpback whales, and blue whales, peak between May and September. This partially explains why this stretch is much busier than other times of year for tourism in Alaska. If you’re hoping to spot some famous Alaska wildlife, you have the highest chances in late summer and early fall. Toward the end of summer and early fall, bears are highly active as they prepare for winter hibernation. Likewise, while weather should be colder during the shoulder seasons of May and September, Alaska’s weather is quite unpredictable.

Because Alaska has such a short season with a limited number of ships and is a dream trip for many, cruises are in high demand and people plan early. If you're interested in Alaska's gold rush history, Skagway — 90 miles northwest of Juneau — is a port you shouldn't miss. In fact, it's the gateway to the Klondike and Dawson mining district in Canada's Yukon territory, where prospectors searched for gold in the late 1890s. The historic district still has a Wild West feel, though that's been a bit commercialized for the modern era.

The Alaska cruise season winds down in October, with only a few ships setting sail. Just as in April and May, you’ll likely have the water to yourself, and even fewer people in the ports you call upon. Along with cooler weather, you’ll also find lower fares that will please your bank account. When traveling from Vancouver in the Inside Passage of Southeast Alaska, the waters are mostly protected and provide smooth sailing. If ports include Anchorage, Seward, or Whittier, cruise ships must cross the Gulf of Alaska, which has notoriously rougher waters. Another advantage of traveling during the shoulder season is that booking shore excursions becomes more convenient.

The month of May can often be a great time to sail to Alaska depending on a few factors. The price is often the lowest of the season, so if you are looking for a great rate, May might be your best bet. About 30,000 eagles call the Great Land home and they’re more abundant in Alaska than anywhere else in the United States. There’s a good chance you’ll see eagles perched high near the shoreline, in town scavenging garbage dumps, or even feasting off a salmon run.
